Purple Rain - Kia Jewell

We set out to shoot a bright, bold location series in the sun... but the weather had other plans. The skies opened up and it started pelting down. So we improvised.

Shifting indoors, we pivoted hard ditching the original concept and going in the total opposite direction. Moody, tight portraits. Funky safety glasses. Costume jewellery we pulled from the wardrobe.

Kia and her partner Cam are full-time dancers based in London, moving with some of the best including Christina Aguilera and Qendresa.So when ever they are back in town I’m always DTS (down to shoot).

There’s something exciting about letting go of the plan and just creating in the moment. This was one of those shoots that reminded me why I love to just go with the flow sometimes.

I’ll be in Europe later this year — fingers crossed our timelines align for a proper autumn shoot in the streets of London or beyond.
