Well Guess I Do Destination Wedding Photography Now?
I done it again… I shot another wedding 🫣. BUT! WAIT WAIT WAIT! When your asked if you want to be flown to Mykonos to shoot a destination wedding, you don’t say no.
The phone rings, its Amrith. Creator of ICONS jewellery, ‘Hey man we are getting married in September and we’d love for you to shoot it for us’. A few seconds of silence pass as I go in my brain ‘ahh, I love this guy but another wedding… really?’
He then adds, ‘we are gunna have it on Mykonos, we’ll fly you over and you can stay in the villas’……. Another few seconds of silence, this time my brain goes, ‘YYYEEEEAAHHHHH BUUUDDDYYYY’.
Composing myself I reply, ‘I’ll check my availability and get back to you’. 😂
This was SOOO fun! Because not only are Amrith and Riley (now wife) absolutely amazing human beings they are also both mega creative. Thus of course they didn’t want it shot like any old wedding.
The brief was this - We want it shot like works of art we can hang on our walls NOT wedding photography. Stoked with this, immediately the work of Slim Arrons came to mind. Slim was an amazing photographer that captured high society socializing and holidaying through the 50s-80s.
Putting a mood board together heavily influenced by Slim and some other ideas I had to make it look like they were celebrities I had crashed the party on, I showed the guys my vision. -> ‘YES, DO THAT’
The day came, the sun was pumping, the vibes were high but there was one problem… the wind.
Holy crikey fuck. I’m from north QLD and been through my share of cyclones and this was pretty bloody close to that!
Battling the insane wind, and razaling 40 people that had never done a photoshoot before, my girlfriend and I tamed the elements (and the family) to make work that I am very proud to put my name to.
So I’m going to change my tune. Ill shoot your wedding… but only if its cool 😎.
